How to extract the audio from any YouTube video and save it as an MP3 quickly & easily

Hello there,

You are here because you want to learn how you can extract the audio (in high quality i.e. 320kbps) from any YouTube video and save the audio as an MP3, WAV, WMA, FLAC, AAC (or as any other audio file format).  Well, in this tutorial I am going to teach you exactly how to do so.

Introduction

Let's face it; YouTube contains every music video known to man.  Just imagine having a hard drive crammed full of all your favourite songs and podcasts that you can listen to at any time offline and without paying expensive yearly subscription fees to the likes of Spotify, Amazon, Deezer etc.  Wouldn't that just be fantastic?

Let's get down to it

To extract the audio from any YouTube video you will need the following:

  1. A YouTube video URL
  2. An internet connection
  3. A Windows based PC/Laptop or a Mac
  4. The "YouTube Audio Extractor" software.  Grab your own copy before they take it down (Windows users click here, Mac users click here)

Step 1

Download, install and launch the "YouTube Audio Extractor" software (Windows users click here, Mac users click here).  Nothing unusual here just a typical download and install.

This is an image from the website's homepage:

Step 2

Visit the YouTube page that contains the video that you want the audio from.  Now copy the page URL from the address bar in your web browser.

It should look something like this ► https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G7HoUVcL5-U

Step 3

Paste the URL that you copied (in Step 2) into the software.  The image below shows the software interface and the red arrow is pointing to the place where you paste the YouTube video URL.
Note:  This software also allows you to take the audio off multiple YouTube videos at the same time.  Just click the "For Multiple URLs" button and paste the URLs, one below the other, into the box that pops up.  The software will then download and convert them one after the other.

Step 3

Choose the level of "Download Quality" (see the image below). I recommend choosing the "Best Available" option as this will result in a better quality audio file but unfortunately will also result in a larger file size which will take up more space on your portable music player or hard drive.

Step 4

Check the "Automatically Convert to" box and from the menu that drops up choose "General Audio" then select an appropriate audio format (there are 12 to choose from).  I recommend MP3.  See the image below.

Step 5

Choose the level of  "Conversion Quality".  The higher the level of conversion quality the better the quality of the audio file will be but the larger the audio file size.  See the image below.

Step 6

Now it's time to extract the audio from your YouTube video.  Simply click the "Download" button which is the round blue button with an arrow pointing down.  This button is located at the bottom left hand corner on the software interface.  See the image below.

Step 7

As soon as you click the "Download" button the software will automatically open the "Activity" tab.  When the software has finished taking the audio from the YouTube video you can click the yellow folder icon to view your audio file.  See the image below.

And that's it!  That's how quick and easy it is to extract the audio from any YouTube video and save the audio file as an MP3 or as any other other audio format.

Another few things about the software that I used in this tutorial:

This software is very capable.  It can download pretty much any video from anywhere on the internet.  Also, it can download pretty much any song from any of the music sharing sites.

Here is a list of the key features of the software that I used in this tutorial:

  • Download and convert any video (in HD or lesser quality) from any video sharing website e.g. YouTube, Dailymotion, Vimeo, Twitch, Instagram, Yahoo Videos, Facebook, eHow, Udemy, Lynda, Veoh, Break, Byte, LBRY and 100 more
  • Batch download & convert videos (in HD or lesser quality) from any video sharing site
  • Download and convert any song from any music streaming sites e.g. Spotify, Deezer, Pandora, Last FM, AccuRadio, Soundcloud, ShoutCast, iHeartRadio and many more
  • Batch download & convert songs from any music streaming site
  • Rip music from any video on any video sharing site and save the song as an MP3, WMA, FLAC or any other popular audio format
  • Batch rip music from videos on any video sharing site
  • Convert video, in any video format, to a video (or audio) in any other video (or audio) format
  • Merge videos/audio files into one video or audio file
