Hello there.
Thanks for taking the time to visit this website. Below, is a step by step tutorial on how to convert an MKV file to an AVI file format.
(Note: Since the time of writing this tutorial the software's interface design has changed. Don't worry as it was just a cosmetic change. The software works in exactly the same way!)
Step 1: Click here to download and install the video
converter.
Make sure that you get the latest version.
Step 2: Open the video converter.
Step 3: Add the desired
MKV file (click icon in the top left corner) or the “Browse” button into AVS Video Converter
as shown below in the diagram. Note: In this tutorial the input file (MKV)
name is called “MKVFile”.

Step 4: Select the output format by clicking
the large rectangular “To AVI”
thumbnail that is located along the top of the software interface.
Step 5: Select Output File Name by clicking on
the “Browse” button on the right
hand side of the screen. Manually type a suitable file name for the output
file. This is shown in the diagram below. Note: In this tutorial I have called
the output file (AVI) “NewAVI”.

Step 7
(Optional): You
may want to configure the “Advanced” settings
for your specific application. The
properties of your output AVI can be changed here e.g. video codec, audio codec
and aspect ratio may be changed here. In
my example I left everything as default.
Shown in diagram 4 below is the advanced settings panel.

Step 8: Convert your
video
You
are now ready to convert your video from MKV to AVI.
The length of time this takes depends on the file size and selected bit
rate. You can monitor your conversion
progress via the progress bar at the bottom of the software interface. You may need to pause your conversion during
the process.

You
can monitor your conversion progress via the progress bar at the bottom of the
software interface. You may need to
pause your conversion during the process. Beside the pause button you will
notice a large red arrow pointing to a drop down menu box. In the drop-down menu you may choose what you
want the software to do once the conversion has been completed. What I found very useful was the option to
have the software shut down my computer when the conversion finishes. This is really especially when you are the
end of a long day and the file conversion is going to take an hour!

Step 9: Multiple Conversions Simultaneously
You may need
to run several MKV to AVI conversions simultaneously. To achieve this just keep adding files like
you added the first one. Don’t worry
about the order you add them if you want to prioritise the order at which the
conversions run. You can do this
afterwards using the arrows at the right hand side of the software interface.
I hope this tutorial has helped you. I very much recommend AVS video converter. Before you go please read my review of this very useful piece of software to get the low down on this very capable piece of software.
P.S. If you have any queries at all please feel free to ask them in the comments section below.
